With Index, you have the ability to view/edit Contact Notes at any time. You can add, view, and/or edit from the following places within the app:
- Contact Panel
- Contact Details Screen
View the information below, depending on your device.

From the Contact Panel
To add a note in the Contact Panel:
- Tap the "Add Notes" area (seen below your Templates)
- Type in the notes you would like to save under your contact
- Click "Save"
If you do not wish to add notes to the contact, you can dismiss the view by clicking "Cancel" at any time.
Important: Notes will be unsaved if you cancel at any point.
From the Contact details screen
Notes are viewable and editable from the Contact details screen. You can access the contact details screen from your inbox (if you have an existing conversation with the customer or from the address book)
To add/edit a note:
- Tap the notes field or click "Edit" on the contact you want to create notes for
- Tap the 'Notes' field (below your Contact's phone number)
- This will bring up the keyboard
- Type in the notes you would like to save under your contact
- To save, click "Done"
To view your Notes for a specific contact, tap on the contact name or number from your Index Contacts.
Adding notes to an unsaved contact:
- A new contact will automatically be created with the name "no name" if you add a Note.
Important items to be aware of:
- If your Notes content is too lengthy, or you've maxed out on the size limit for your Note (16MB), you may find that the text is cut off at the end when you:
- paste content
- import from your device's Contacts
- If you answer a Index incoming call, or you background the app, your Notes will auto-save from where you left off
- From the Contact Details screen:
- If you cancel/exit the app or log out, your Notes will auto-save.
- If you choose to add Notes to an unsaved contact from the "edit view" you will have to click 'Done' to save Notes and other information. If you press 'Cancel', it will not save the info.
- If you add notes from the Contact Details screen, they will automatically be saved (there is no "Save" button)

- The Contact Panel displays only a limited number of lines, so to view the note you've added in its entirety, tap the Notes section to go into edit mode for a full view and the ability to scroll through the Note.

From the Contact Panel after a call has ended
The Contact Panel will automatically display after a call has ended (see requirements), which will allow you to add notes and tags to the Contact.- In the "Notes" tab in the Contact Panel, enter the text you'd like to save under your contact.
- Click "Save"
If you do not wish to add notes to the contact, you can dismiss the view by selecting the X to close the Contact Panel.
Important: Notes will be unsaved and you will be required to click 'Discard' if you go back without saving.
From the Contact details screen
The Contact Panel can be accessed at any point from the Contact Detail screen. To open the Contact Panel, locate the existing 1:1 conversation you have with the contact, then follow the instructions below.
To add/edit a note:
- Locate the 1:1 conversation and open it.
- Tap the
to open the Contact Panel (you will see a Notes and Tags tab)
- Under the Notes section, tap the field to start entering text, then type in the notes you would like to save under your contact.
- Tap "Save."
FYI: If you don't have an existing conversation with the contact you'd like to add Notes to, you access the Notes section by locating the Contact in the Index Address Book, then clicking the Notes field to add/edit notes.
Adding notes to an unsaved contact:
- Locate the 1:1 conversation of the number (since the number is not saved to a Contact at this time) and enter the notes, then tap 'Save'
- You can also enter a Contact name from the Contact Panel so you don't have notes saved to a number. To do so, select 'ADD NAME' (above the Notes tab), then tap 'Save'
Important items to be aware of:
- If your Notes content is too lengthy, or you've maxed out on the size limit for your Note (16MB), you may find that the text is cut off at the end when you:

- Import from your device's Contacts
- If you tap the 'X' or select 'Discard' after entering text in the Notes section, your notes will not be saved. To ensure your notes save, tap 'Save'
