When receiving or placing an Index call, you may notice that the number appears as an out-of-state number or a random number you do not recognize. That is because your Index number is being routed through another number; what we call your pilot number.
What is an Index Pilot number?
Pilot numbers are the auto-generated numbers we assign to your account that we use to route your incoming and outgoing calls to and from your Index number. Pilot numbers are crucial to calling success with Index.
How do I identify my pilot numbers?
You will find your pilot numbers in your device's address book and within your call history. They will be named/displayed as follows:
- iPhone: "Incoming Index Call" and "Outgoing Index Call"
- Android: "Index Incoming Call" and "Index Outgoing Call"
Please Note: Do not delete the above contacts from your address book unless otherwise suggested by Index support as a troubleshooting step to reset your pilot numbers if you're experiencing calling/Caller ID issues.
To reset your pilot numbers:
- Open your device's address book.
- Locate the contacts by their name. (as seen above for Android and iOS)
- Delete each contact. (both incoming and outgoing)
After you delete the Index contacts, they will reappear once you receive and/or place a call through Index as they are required for calling.
