How to create, send, & manage your Broadcasts

Note: This feature is available for Index iOS subscribers only at this time. iOS users may also use Index Web to manage their Broadcasts. The Index feature set is temporarily limited on Android.

Broadcast is a feature available for Index users who wish to "broadcast" the same message to multiple contacts at once. Below you'll find steps on how to send and create a Broadcast message using contacts and tags, along with how to manage your existing Broadcast messages.

Important: You cannot send marketing messages using Broadcast unless you have the express written consent of all recipients of those Broadcast messages. You must honor all opt-out requests from any recipients who indicate that they do not want to receive marketing messages from you.

How to create & send a Broadcast message

Step 1: Create a new Broadcast List

1. View your Index inbox. 
2. Tap the compose message icon. 
3. Tap 'Broadcast' to compose a new Broadcast message.
   
   • Tip: You can also create a new Broadcast via Index Settings > Broadcast > Create New.
4. The first time you go to send a Broadcast, an 'Understanding Broadcast Regulations' pop-up will be presented. You'll need to click 'Continue' if you agree to the terms in order to send Broadcast messages.
5. Tap 'Create New' to begin drafting up a list of recipients (see below for steps on how to add recipients).

Step 2: Add recipients

Tags and/or contacts can be used to build your Broadcast list. You can either search for or scroll through the tags and contacts tab to select which recipients you'd like to add.

Important: Numbers that are not SMS enabled (a landline number for example), won't be able to receive Broadcasts & thus can't be added to your Broadcast. 

1. From the recipient's screen, select which tags or contacts you want to add to the Broadcast.
   • A checkmark indicates that the recipient has been added to your list successfully. 
   • As noted above, you must have the written consent of those recipients to send them marketing messages.
   • There is a max of 24 recipients per Broadcast message. A count of the number of recipients is located at the top of the screen to help you keep track. If you exceed the limit, you will receive an error
2. Once you've selected your recipients for the Broadcast message, tap Next. 
3. From there, name the Broadvast list to help keep your Broadcast messages organized (or tap skip to name the list at a later time).
4. When a name has been added, tap Save. 

Note: A "tag" icon is displayed next to the tag name to differentiate between a contact and a tag (example seen below).

Step 3: Create your message & send your Broadcast

1. In your newly created Broadcast, type a message into the text field.
   • You can also select a Template(s) to add to your Broadcast message if you desire.
2. When you are satisfied with your message, tap the send arrow to send your Broadcast.

FYI: On the latest Index app version, you can save a Broadcast message as a draft and send it later. Simply tap 'Save' and then enter a name for the Broadcast (or skip). Your drafted Broadcast message will be displayed in your inbox as "(Draft)" 

Note: Sent Broadcasts will be displayed in the inbox with a microphone icon and 'Broadcast' will be displayed in the conversation line.

To View your Receipeints:

1. Pull up your list of current Broadcasts (Settings, tap Broadcast).
2. Select the Broadcast you want to view.
3. Tap the three dots (top-right), then tap View Recipeints.

Note: You can edit this list at any time by tapping Edit. (More info below.)  

Please note: Any contact that has responded to the Broadcast will then be shown in your Index inbox as a 1:1 conversation (not in the public Broadcast message.)

Editing an existing Broadcast

 You have the following options in regard to managing your Broadcast messages: 

1. Rename a Broadcast
2. Add or remove recipients from a Broadcast
   • Tags 
   • Contacts
3. Delete a Broadcast 

Rename a Broadcast

1. Pull up your list of current Broadcasts (Settings, tap Broadcast).
2. Select the Broadcast you want to edit.
3. Tap the three dots (top-right), then tap Edit Name.
4. Type in the new name, and when complete, tap Save.

Note: You cannot have two Broadcast messages with the same name. 

Add or Remove Recipients 

1. Pull up your list of current Broadcasts (Settings, tap Broadcast).
2. Select the Broadcast you want to edit.
3. Tap the three dots (top-right), then tap View Recipeints.
4. On the "List Details" screen, tap Edit. 
   
   • To Add: Search or scroll your contacts or tags list to locate the recipients you wish to add (or type in a new number), select all that apply, then tap Save. 
   • To Remove: Tap the 'X' on the contact or tag that you wish to remove from the Broadcast list.

 FYI: You can have a max of 24 recipients per Broadcast. 

Delete 

1. Pull up your list of current Broadcasts (Settings > Broadcast).
2. Swipe left on the Broadcast, then tap delete.

You can also delete the Broadcast by tapping the three dots (top-right) within the open Broadcast message.
