Porting is a fancy term for transferring a phone number from one service provider to another.
With Index, you can either port an existing number into Index (i.e. transferring a number from AT&T to Index), or if you leave, you can port your number out of Index (i.e. transferring your number out of Index and to Verizon, for example).
Porting In
Before you begin the port process, check out the list of unsupported numbers that cannot be ported into Index. After that, click here for port-in instructions.
Porting Out
The number you port out will become the number you use with the service provider to which you have ported your number.
Note: If you port out your Index number, you will no longer have an assigned phone number on your account and will need to choose a new one in order to continue using Index.
Before porting your number out:
- Do not cancel or close your account just yet - porting your number out may take a couple of days depending on the time the other service provider takes to process the request. Therefore, you should wait until you have received confirmation from them that your number has successfully been ported in.
- It is required to pay a one-time fee of $49.99 to unlock the number (unless originally ported into Index.)
- If you are currently subscribed, you must cancel your auto-renewing subscription through your app store. Otherwise, you'll continue getting charged your monthly subscription fee.
