How do I place a call?

There are various ways you can place a call in Index. Please see the instructions below on how to place a call from Index on your Android or iPhone.  

Note: Index Web cannot be used to place or receive calls. Please use the mobile app for calling.

Contact List

To place a call on your Android from your Index contact list:

1. Tap on the Contacts icon to display Index's address book 
2. Find your contact: Scroll through your list of contacts, or begin typing the name of who you'd like to call in the search bar
3. Once you have found your contact, tap their name > tap the phone icon to call

Inbox

To place a call from an existing conversation in your inbox:

1. Tap and hold the conversation straight from the inbox to quickly place a call (a green circle will appear and will connect your outgoing call)

Please Note: You cannot use this function to place a call to a group conversation. 

Conversation Thread

To place a call from a single conversation: 

1. Tap on the conversation with the person you wish to call
2. Tap the green phone icon on the top right of the screen to place the call

Dial Pad

To place a call from your dial pad: 

1. Click on the Call icon (9 dots icon on the toolbar)
2. Type in the number you wish to call (including the area code)

Additional Notes: 

• If you’re on the latest Android OS, and you can't place an outgoing call, check your device settings to confirm that phone permissions are enabled.

• If you receive the error message "number has been disconnected" or "number is no longer in service" when placing or receiving calls, please refer to our Index Service Status Page first to check if there are any current calling disruptions within Index.

Contact List

To place a call on your iPhone from Index's contact list:

1. Tap on the Contacts icon to display Index's address book 
2. Find your contact: Scroll through your list of contacts, or begin typing the name of who you'd like to call in the search bar
3. Once you have found your contact, tap their name > tap the green phone icon to call
4. A screen will pop up confirming you want to place a call to the contact/number > tap Call

Inbox

To place a call from an existing conversation in your inbox:

Tap and hold the conversation straight from the inbox to quickly place a call. A green circle will appear and will connect your outgoing call (as pictured below.)

Please Note: You cannot use this function to place a call to a group conversation. 

Conversation Thread

1. Tap on the conversation with the person you wish to call
2. Tap the green phone icon on the top right of the screen to place the call
3. Confirm again by tapping 'Call' via your Index pilot number (as explained above)

Dial Pad

To place a call from your dial pad: 

1. Click on the Call icon (9 dots icon on the toolbar)
2. Type in the number you wish to call (including the area code)
3. Tap the green phone icon to call
